Integrated corporate policy of FES Frankfurter Entsorgungs- und Service GmbH (FES)
FES Frankfurter Entsorgungs- und Service GmbH (FES) sees itself as a comprehensive service provider for waste disposal, urban cleanliness and other environmental services. As a public-private partnership (PPP) company, 51 per cent of the shares are owned by the City of Frankfurt am Main, while 49 per cent are held by the family-owned company REMONDIS. The FES Group comprises three subsidiaries and three associated companies, and the group's workforce numbers around 1,900 employees. The group's annual turnover in 2024 was approximately £285 million.
The Group’s range of services is aimed at municipal and commercial customers as well as at citizens. In addition to traditional waste disposal and cleaning services, it also includes winter services, green space maintenance, renewable energy generation, traffic safety services and event support, pest control and student transportation.
The company is certified as a specialist waste disposal company and pursues ambitious goals in terms of sustainability and digitalization. High ecological standards, consistently high quality of services and economic efficiency form the triad that characterizes the company. FES also places great importance on compliance with clearly defined and transparent processes. Through regular reviews and continuous communication with customers and employees, FES strives for the ongoing development of processes and the assurance of consistently high quality.
In addition to its expertise as a waste management company, FES is also a high-performance logistics company with a large, modern vehicle fleet. Since 2023, FES has been setting new nationwide standards in sustainable mobility with a large fleet of fully electric waste collection vehicles.
In order to meet the above-mentioned requirements, FES operates an integrated management system in accordance with the standards DIN ISO 14001 (environment), DIN ISO 50001 (energy) and DIN ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety). These systems complement the requirements placed on FES as a certified specialist waste disposal company under the German Ordinance on Specialist Waste Management Companies (EfbV).
Compliance with all legal requirements and all specifications arising from official permits, as well as the continuous reduction of impacts on the environment and urban society caused by waste treatment facilities and the vehicle fleet, are top priorities. Based on an environmental management system, FES develops measures with qualified employees to improve environmental performance in line with the company’s environmental objectives. FES maintains a constructive approach and transparent communication with the competent authorities, political representatives and the urban community regarding operational processes and their environmental impacts.
Our objective is to use energy sources as efficiently as possible. In cases where we generate energy ourselves, we aim to maximize the energy yield from the energy content of the fuels used. This provides the framework for setting and reviewing energy objectives. Compliance with legal and other requirements related to energy efficiency, energy use and energy consumption is mandatory. This particularly includes the critical evaluation of all internal energy consumption with the aim of developing measures to improve energy performance. For this purpose and for the improvement of the energy management system, information from energy monitoring is used and appropriate human and financial resources are provided. In procurement, consideration of energy efficiency over the entire life cycle of a product plays a key role in sustainably improving energy performance.
FES’s corporate objective is that every employee returns home as healthy as when they arrived at work. Accordingly, FES is strongly committed to healthy and safe working conditions. Health protection and the prevention of injuries and illnesses are top priorities. The objectives relating to occupational health and safety therefore carry equal weight with economic objectives. Every manager is obliged, within their area of responsibility, to reduce the risk of injury by eliminating hazards through dialogue with employees, safety officers, the works council, occupational physicians and occupational safety specialists. In addition to legally required preventive and protective measures, FES provides high-quality personal protective equipment and health protection measures, such as significantly discounted access to fitness facilities. Compliance with legal, regulatory, professional association and internal occupational health and safety regulations is mandatory for every employee.
FES recently realigned its corporate strategy with the objectives of improving adaptability to rapidly changing environmental conditions, strengthening internal identity and enhancing FES’s external attractiveness. The previously strongly functional organization was replaced for this purpose by a business-field-oriented structure that is more agile and closer to the market. The spectrum of FES services has now been expanded and structured into five business areas: Urban Cleanliness & Quality of Life, Circular Economy, Zero Waste, Climate Neutrality & Energy, and Digital Services & Products. The business field organization provides demand-oriented solution offerings while leaving room for further development and adaptation to future needs and developments.
In addition, within the framework of comprehensive employee participation, a new mission statement was developed with the vision “Together. For a future worth living” and the mission “We ensure cleanliness, secure resources and protect the environment.”
Together with the corporate strategy, this corporate policy serves as a guideline for actions and decision-making and ensures that FES achieves its ecological, social and economic goals in a sustainable manner.
