Information about the packaging bin in Frankfurt am Main

The most important information about the packaging bin in Frankfurt am Main:

  • The collection, sorting and recycling of sales packaging is carried out nationwide by means of a privately organised and independently financed waste disposal system.
  • The system operator has commissioned us to set up and empty the packaging bins.
  • The packaging bins have a grey/black body and a yellow lid.
  • The packaging bins are emptied every 14 days.
  • In exceptional cases, if the packaging bin is not sufficient, "yellow bags" can be placed next to the packaging bin for collection on the emptying day.
  • "Yellow bags" are available at our service centre, at the South and North recycling centres during opening hours, and at the East recycling centre at the gate around the clock.
  • Packaging bins are available in sizes of 120, 240 and 770 litres as well as 1.1 m³.
  • The collection of packaging is financed by licence fees that manufacturers and distributors pay to the system operator for each item of packaging.
  • Tenants cannot order packaging bins themselves. They must contact their landlord or property manager.

What can be put in it?

All packaging that is not made exclusively of paper, cardboard or glass.

  • Plastic packaging such as film, cups and polystyrene,
  • composite packaging made from a mix of materials (e.g. aluminium and paper) such as beverage cartons or milk cartons,
  • Metal packaging such as food and drink cans (unless they are subject to a deposit),
  • Foamed plastics, e.g. fruit and vegetable packaging.

The packaging does not need to be rinsed, but it must be empty.

What is not allowed?

  • Paper and cardboard packaging,
  • glass packaging,
  • heavily soiled fast food packaging such as pizza boxes.

If there is too much residual waste in the packaging bin, the packaging can no longer be sorted and processed. The bins will then not be emptied. A special collection as residual waste must be requested in writing ( application for special collection).
