School year of sustainability

Education for sustainable development in Frankfurt am Main

As a former flagship project in the field of education, the Frankfurt cooperation project “School Year of Sustainability” has been well established for years.

The aim of the project is that every child in Frankfurt knows what sustainable development means after finishing primary school. They should be able to identify possible courses of action and use them to shape their own lives.

FES has been the main sponsor and partner of the project since its launch in the 2012/13 school year. The commitment is designed as a long-term cooperation between the City of Frankfurt and companies such as FES. The project is carried out by the association Umweltlernen in Frankfurt e.V.

The outstanding importance of the “School Year of Sustainability” was recognized by the National Committee of the UN Decade “Education for Sustainable Development” by being awarded as an official measure of the World Decade.
