FES receives ZfK Sustainability Award for reporting portal

As part of a ceremonial award presentation in Berlin, FES Frankfurter Entsorgungs- und Service GmbH received the ZfK Sustainability Award in Gold in the Digitalization category for the app “Meldeportal” developed by the company.

The app, which is currently still under development and is expected to be ready for use in autumn, works very simply: residents of Frankfurt take a picture of an illegal dumping site and allow the exact location to be transmitted. The image is analyzed and evaluated by generative AI, after which the necessary process steps at FES are automatically initiated to remove the waste as quickly as possible.

The type of vehicle used depends on the type of waste to be disposed of. If it is illegal dumping of up to one cubic meter, it will be collected by the street cleaning service with a sweeper collection vehicle. If the dumping is larger than one cubic meter, a bulky waste vehicle will be used. If hazardous substances are involved, an emergency response vehicle will be dispatched.

FES Managing Director Benjamin Scheffler expressed his pride after receiving the award: “With the reporting portal, AI and humans work perfectly together. This allows processes within the company to be simplified, cleanliness in Frankfurt to be improved, and risks from illegal dumping to be minimized.”

The app also enables direct and rapid feedback to the citizen who reported the illegal dumping site. Transparent communication has two advantages: the citizen experiences their own effectiveness and sees how quickly and thoroughly FES removes illegal dumping.
