300 bookings per week: trial phase for unstaffed operation at Landgraben small waste collection point proves successful

For seven weeks, the Landgraben small waste site operated without staff, but now it is switching back. Specifically, this means that from Monday to Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., FES Frankfurter Entsorgungs- und Service GmbH staff will be on site again to assist citizens with the proper disposal of green waste, bulky waste, paper, lightweight packaging, metals, glass, and used clothing.

From 5:10 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the additional digital service remains available. Citizens of Frankfurt book a 10-minute time slot via the self-service app Maex, developed by FES co-shareholder Remondis, open the gate via Bluetooth at the scheduled time, deposit their recyclables, and leave the site.

During the test period, approximately 1,200 appointments were booked in total. After 70 bookings in the first week and 130 in the second week, the number of bookings stabilized at around 300 per week. Feedback from citizens was positive. Time slots after 6 p.m. were especially popular. The most popular days were Friday, Saturday, and Monday. In the coming weeks, usage will be evaluated to determine whether a permanently staffless operation is feasible in the future.
