Extended Opening Hours for Citizens

Since September, there has been a digital supplementary service at the Landgraben small waste site. From February 10, this will be expanded in a seven-week test phase until March 29. From Monday to Saturday, citizens can continue to deposit green waste, bulky waste, paper, lightweight packaging, metals, old glass, and used clothing. As with the previous digital service, FES staff will not be on-site. The areas are video-monitored.

The opening hours will be extended. From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., starting Monday, February 10, citizens can book a 10-minute time slot via the Externer Link zu self-service app Maex developed by FES co-shareholder Remondis. During the booked time, they open the gate via Bluetooth, deposit their recyclables, and leave the premises.

The background for this is the positive experience with the digital service at Landgraben and the Kalbach recycling center. Since April 2024, it has been possible to deposit recyclables outside regular opening hours. The service has been so well received that it is now being expanded.

"By booking a time slot, there are no waiting times. This increases the service for citizens. Last year, there was a three-week test phase for the unattended operation of Landgraben – back then without prior registration via the app and with good experiences. I am pleased that we can now expand our digital offering," says FES Managing Director Dirk Remmert.

After the test period, usage will be evaluated. It will then be decided whether to switch permanently to digital operation.

Staff will still be present at the Barbarossastraße small waste site and all other recycling centers. Employees from Landgraben will be deployed at other recycling centers during the test phase.

Landgraben will not be completely unmanned: FES staff will come several times a week to check everything on-site and transport the deposited recyclables.
